Job Title: Latah County Public Defender

The Latah County Board of Commissioners is soliciting proposals from attorneys for the position of Latah County Public Defender for a two (2) year period commencing on October 1, 2015.

The Public Defender provides legal representation to indigent adult criminal defendants, juveniles petitioned pursuant to the Idaho Youth Corrections Act, respondents and/or children in Child Protective Act and termination of parental rights proceedings and respondents in voluntary hospitalization proceedings (including proceedings under the Children’s Mental Health Act). 

The Public Defender is an independent contractor of Latah County.  The successful applicant must be an attorney at law licensed to practice in the State of Idaho and must maintain an office in Latah County.  Additional information is available by contacting Kara Egan, Deputy Clerk of the BOCC at 208-883-7208.  Proposals must be submitted to the Latah County Board of Commissioners at the Latah County Courthouse, P.O. Box 8068, 5th and Van Buren Street, Moscow Idaho 83843 until filled or not later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday July 10, 2015.  Latah County is an ADA/EOE employer.

 

Job Title: Communication Specialist

The Latah County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the positions of Communication Specialist.  Successful applicants will be offered a position based upon current openings available.

Applicants must be 21 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.  Candidates must pass written test and oral interview.  Successful applicants will undergo an extensive background investigation to include polygraph and psychological examination. Successful applicants must be able to attain Idaho POST certification within 12 months of hire date or already have POST certification.  

The positions are full-time and include a generous benefit package; medical, dental and optical insurance for employee as well as a portion for dependent coverage. Benefit package also includes PERSI retirement plan, vacation, sick leave, overtime/compensatory time as well as $1500 flat fringe per year. Communication Specialist Salary range $30,048.00 to $41,388.00 annually, DOE. EOE/ADA.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma.
  • Willing to learn new tasks as necessary.
  • Computer competencies to perform office functions efficiently and accurately (i.e. MS Word 2007 Office Suite).
  • At least 12 months clerical experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly developed organizational skills.
  • Ability to track and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work additional hours during the Latah County Fair and other events as needed on rare weekends/evenings.
  • Able to work with little supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.

The Latah County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the positions of Detention Deputy. Successful applicants will be offered a position based upon current openings available.

Applicants must be 21 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates must pass written test, physical agility test and oral interview. Successful applicants will undergo an extensive background investigation to include polygraph, psychological examination and medical examination. Successful applicants must be able to attain Idaho POST certification within 12 months of hire date or already have POST certification.

The positions are full-time and include a generous benefit package; medical, dental and optical insurance for employee as well as a portion for dependent coverage. Benefit package also includes PERSI retirement plan, vacation, sick leave, overtime/compensatory time as well as $1500 flat fringe per year. Patrol Deputy Salary range $35,088 to $48,612 per year, DOE. EOE/ADA; and Detention Deputy Salary range $31,824 to $43,872 per year, DOE. EOE/ADA.
