Job Title: Probation Officer Assistant

Status: Open until closed.

Department: Probation and Youth Services

Pay: $11.21/hr

The primary focus of this job is the supervision of juvenile and/or adult offenders who are required to fulfill obligations to the community as directed by the Court.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Transport juveniles, and/or adults, as necessary.
  • Supervise community service work crews.
  • Confront and redirect behavior.
  • Hook up electronic monitoring equipment, as needed.
  • Administer urinalysis tests, as directed.
  • Make curfew calls, or curfew checks, as needed.
  • Observe and report on behavior of juveniles and/or adults.
  • Serve as mentor and provide socially acceptable guidance, direction and stability.
  • Conduct home visits with juveniles and/or adults, with Probation Officer or Resource Officer.
  • Tutor juveniles in the study table program.
  • Assist with searches.
  • Assist with programs, such as Youth Accountability Board, Moral Reconation Therapy, Attendance Court, and Latah County Youth Advocacy program, as needed
  • Assist with miscellaneous office duties, including clerical, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • May be called upon to testify in court hearings, and/or provide written statements.
  • Encounters, at times, confrontational situations with hostile probationers and/or family members.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • May be required to complete trainings, including but not limited to, use of Pepper Spray, Lifeloc and CPR.
  • Collects “walk-in” urinalysis.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.


  • Must pass Criminal History Background check and Sexual Offender Investigation.
  • Completed at least one year of college or have at least one year of experience in a related field.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent written and communications skills.

Typical Physical Requirements

  • Lifting objects (greater than 40 lbs.), driving, crouching and walking.
  • May involve exposure to adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to convey and receive detailed information through oral and written communication.

Job Title: Communication Specialist

Status: Open - Accepting Applications

Department: Sheriff's Office

Minimum Starting Salary: $34,068

Hours: Full-time

The Latah County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for the position of Communication Specialist Successful applicants will be offered a position based upon current openings available.

Salary Range: $34,068 to $50,748, and $2,700.00 per year flat fringe benefit in addition to a generous benefit package.

Required: Applicants must be 21 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates must pass written test and oral interview. Successful applicants will undergo an extensive background investigation to include a polygraph examination. Successful applicants must be able to attain Idaho POST certification within 12 months of hire date or already have POST certification.

Job Title: Youth Advocacy Council Program Assistant

Status: Open- Accepting Applications

Department: Latah County Youth Advocacy Council

Salary: $11.20 - $12.80 no benefits

Hours: Part-Time Irregular (10-20/wk)

Application Deadline: Open until filled.

The primary focus of this position is to provide leadership and development for the Latah County Youth Advocacy Council Youth Ambassador Program. Duties will include creating, planning, and implementing a Youth Ambassador Program, as well as recruit, plan for, and supervise Youth Ambassadors volunteering in the Youth Ambassador Program. Assists with Latah County Youth Advocacy Council events and programming as needed.


  • Must pass a Criminal History Background check and Sexual Offender Investigation
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Possess current vehicle insurance
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Experience working with and/or volunteering with youth in 8-12th grades
  • Experience working with or developing volunteer programs
